Amy and Wes both grew up in Georgia, met in Austin and then got married in Dallas on the rooftop of the "Old" Post Office and Federal Building downtown. They had friends and family join them from across the country — and world. It was nothing but love and laughter all day. No stress, no worries, no anxiety, just pure happiness. Brides & Weddings recently interviewed the bride and here is what she had to say about their special wedding day!
Our abridged, funny meet-cute happened in Austin when when Wes spotted me walking out of a bathroom. I was visiting sorority sisters from Georgia Tech and one of those friends just happened to be Wes' "cousin." Fast forward to flights back and forth from Austin to Atlanta (with a little bit of Pittsburgh, Memphis, Pasadena, and Seattle in between for work) and several trips together across the country and around the world -- Wes asked me to say, "Yes" to forever on January 16 in Atlanta over a glass of spilled wine.
Brides & Weddings: What was your theme? What inspired you to pick that theme?
Truthfully, I let the venue do the talking. Wes and I moved to Dallas together into the restored Tax Court House downtown with the original Post Office still in business downstairs, today. The real estate developer did an amazing job restoring and preserving the original hardwood floors, lime-white marble and dim-lit hallways which serves as a small residential, commercial and open venue area. All of these things really made our wedding because we were truly opening the doors to our home for our friends and family. I don't know if I could accurately put that into words, but if I had to try I'd say idyllic harmony.
Brides & Weddings: Describe the dress you chose and the moment you knew it was the one.
Elegant, big and pink. Choosing the dress was like a scene out of a movie. After a premature and anxious first dress appointment by myself the week after we got engaged I was crushed because I found what I thought was my dream dress at an unrealistic price. I was pretty discontent the next time I went dress shopping with my mom and best friend in Atlanta. I just wanted to get a dress, to get a dress and cross it off the list. Unsuccessful of course, the following day one of my bridesmaids sent me information about a sample sale at a bridal boutique in Atlanta. I ended running around the store in my underwear trying on dresses. As I was looking in the mirror of a top contender, I noticed the dress another bride was wearing right next to me. We both loved what the other person had on but were reluctant to lose the dress we were both wearing. We ended up switching dresses and the chase was over. We both ended up buying each other’s dresses on the spot! The dress I chose was exactly what my mom wanted which I honestly never would have pictured myself in -- A-line, non-strapless, little beading and lace and blush pink satin.
Brides & Weddings: Any advice for future brides & grooms?
Don't stress, this really is the best day of your life.
