Make your ballroom beautiful with lighting

The hotel ballroom is back! What was once considered an unsightly air wall is now a blank canvas for beautiful specialty lighting. I asked Calvin Mata of SMERF Events Lighting & Decor Rentals to give us some helpful tips on uplighting. To lean more about SMERF Events and their services, visit their website:

  • Match the color of your color scheme (dresses, linens, napkins, flowers).  For example, if your color is dark purple, then you would pick bright purple uplighting. For contrast, you can do purple and white uplighting or purple and blue alternating.
  • Make sure you have enough uplights. There's no sense of doing uplights if its not sufficient around the whole ballroom. Standard uplighting is to place it every 7-10 feet apart
  • Quality Wired LED uplights range from $20-$35 each and Wireless LED uplights range from $40-$75 each. Use a professional who  knows about lighting and effects so you can expect quality results and not just a DJ with a few uplights looking to make extra money.

On the day of your wedding, just sit back, relax and expect your guests to be awed by the ambient uplighting!
