Preserving your wedding memories so they’ll last and be watched for years to come … how do you decide on the right video company to capture them? From equipment and editing to style,and editing to style, digital, and DVD – it’s so high tech today. Here are some helpful tips to get you started on your search: 

Experience: Anyone can video your wedding – but not everyone can successfully capture the emotions of your day. You want someone who has wedding experience and a good reputation. Trained wedding videographers know what to look for and when to capture an emotion, such as your parents’ faces as you walk down the aisle. Review the company’s work and be sure you like the style and presentation. Make sure you are comfortable with the product you are shown.

Equipment is a big issue today – but don’t get too hung up on it. There are a few items, however, you should look for. Your videographer should use wireless microphones on the groom, readers, singers, and musicians. After all, what good is reliving your vows if you can’t hear them? Your videographer should also use High Definition digital cameras and editing equipment and be able to offer a DVD or Blu-ray disc. 

History: It’s best to have a personal interview with your videographer. You should be able to see a promotional video so you will know what to expect. Don’t be afraid to ask questions: How long has the company been in business; Are they a member of a wedding association and the Better Business Bureau, and are they covered by insurance? Ask to see a certificate of insurance, along with recommendations and a packet of company information (and not just a rate sheet). And remember – whatever the company does most is what it does best, so find out if the majority of their work is weddings or something else, such as corporate. 

Videography is a visual and audio product and you must see the work before booking. Give yourself time to visit three companies so you can make a sound decision. And don’t cut corners – your video will be a constant reminder of your wedding for years to come.
