Palm Beach Brunch | Real Weddings

Brigitte & Matt were married in a country club - style brunch wedding at one of Palm Beach's most popular venues, The Colony Hotel. The ceremony took place on the lawn, complete with a harp, champagne, and a gorgeous bridal party donning morning suits and Lilly Pulitzer dresses. Brides & Weddings recently asked Brigitte to share details of their wedding day.

Matt and I met downtown in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a Floridian, I was charmed by Matt’s southern demeanor and Alabamian accent. For our first date, he brought me to a Dierks Bentley concert introducing me to country music! We both love to travel and spent most of our free time visiting cultural sites and new destinations. In March of 2015, we traveled to London, UK and after an amazing week of site seeing and incredible experiences, Matt proposed to me in the gardens of Kensington Palace. We were married in May of the following year.

Brides & Weddings: What was your theme?

Our Palm Beach location served as our wedding inspiration. For our venue, we chose The Colony Palm Beach, a boutique hotel bustling with personality and local eclecticism. I grew up just down the street from the Colony and remember daydreaming with my sisters about its glamorous brunches and events. It really felt like the perfect location! Matt and I both wanted a casual, chic wedding, and we incorporated the idea throughout. The ceremony took place in the hotel’s poolside garden. The Maid of Honor and flower girls wore Lilly Pulitzer Palm Beach dresses. The cocktail hour featured mojitos, crab cakes, and mid-century jazz music. We absolutely loved our cake—it was four tiers of pineapple and coconut cream! More than anything, we wanted to feel comfortable and calm; our theme allowed us to do so!

Brides & Weddings: Describe the dress you chose and the moment you knew it was the one.

For my dress, I chose an Eve of Milady strapless ball gown with beaded bodice and tulle skirt. Going in, I really had no idea what I wanted. I went shopping my sister and mom. I tried on a variety of styles and materials; I liked quite a few but they had aspects I didn’t love. The mermaid style made me feel short, and in more elaborate dresses, l I felt I was playing dress up! I gravitated towards the A-line style because I liked how it fit my body type. When I finally tried on my dress-I knew it was the one. It was simple, but not without detail. I loved the beaded bodice and the lines it created. The tulle skirt had a slightly pink liner; it was very light weight and was easy to wear. I felt pretty and happy, and I could picture myself walking down the aisle!

Brides & Weddings: Any advice for other brides?

It’s your wedding, do what makes you happy! I spent hours worrying about pleasing other people and choosing things that I thought would make them happy. Eventually, I realized that most people just want to make a special day for the bride and groom. In the end, we were really happy because we made decisions based on what we wanted and how we wanted to celebrate our wedding day!
